Electricity in Cancun: Power Plugs, Sockets in Mexico

The electrical outlet voltage in Cancun (and therefore in all of Mexico) is 127 Volts AC and the frequency is 60 Hz.
Although in many Cancun resorts, they offer outlets of different voltages, ranging from 110 to 240 volts to facilitate tourists coming from different countries.
For example, the nominal voltage in the United States is 120 Volts. In this case, in most cases you do not need a converter since the voltage is basically the same (a difference of 7 volts), so for most devices it works without problems.
The plug is the classic type A or B plug, with two or three flat pins:
Plug Types in Mexico
Type A
The Type A plug is the classic American plug, with two flat pins, as shown in the following image:
Type B
The Type B plug is the same as Type A, but has a third pin in the middle that serves as a grounding plug. Let's see in image:
Do I need to bring an adapter to Cancún, Mexico?
So, keep these facts in mind when you travel to Cancun and Riviera Maya, check if you need an adapter.
Although nowadays, most electronic devices have the intelligence to adapt in Voltage and Frequency but not all of them.
The voltage of the electric current in Cancun and Riviera Maya is 127 Volts AC, 60 Hz.
For example, if your electronic device says "INPUT: 100-240V, 50/60 Hz", this means that it can be used in those Voltage and Frequency ranges. You will only need the plug adapters which can be of different pins.
But, if your device is somewhat old, or is not prepared to adapt to different voltages and frequencies, you will need to use a power transformer or adapter.
Although in many Cancun resorts, they offer outlets of different voltages, ranging from 110 to 240 volts to facilitate the use of the devices of tourists coming from different parts of the world.
For example, the nominal voltage in the United States is 120 Volts. In this case, in most cases you do not need a converter since the voltage is basically the same (with a difference of 7 volts), so for most devices it works without problems.
Also, many resorts in the Hotel Zone offer outlets with voltages adapted to American devices (120V, AC 60 Hz), since most of their guests are from the United States or Canada.
Either way, it will depend on your device, check if the volt is in the range accepted by the device. And check with your hotel about the outlet voltage in the room.
But as a general rule, try to bring only the necessary devices to avoid carrying adapters and transformers. In particular, large hotels are well equipped, in the room you will find a hairdryer and a clothes iron.
